The oh so cool home of a Swedish photographer

Wednesday, March 26, 2014

Morning! This is the oh so cool home of talented Swedish wedding photographer Therese Winberg. Shot by Therese and styled by Anna Malmgren for Plaza Interiör, the space appeared on several blogs late last year and I missed it (I know, I think I was to busy enjoying my Christmas glögg!). It's such a fabulous home I thought I'd better share it in case you missed it too?! The space is the perfect blend of old and new and teeming with the latest design trends (hello geometric kitchen floor, scallop fronted dresser, grey marble surfaces..) . There is so much inspiration from this place I'm not sure where to start, but I'll certainly be pinning every picture!

What do you love most about this home?

Personally, I'd like Therese's bright coloured collection of sneakers!

Because it'd be rude not to:  here are some beautiful homes tours of other Swedish photographers: Jakob Nyland, Helena Blom, and Jonas Ingerstedt.  It's official: Swedish photographers have fabulous homes!

Have a lovely day!

A cool Funkis style apartment in Gothenburg

Monday, March 24, 2014

Hello Monday! I hope you had a great weekend?! Mine was the perfect mix of wine with friends, a day out in the Skåne nature and Sunday tinkering around the home so now I'm ready and raring to go! As opposed to Friday's dramatic home tour, I feel the start of the week calls for something fresh and light, don't you agree?! I love this recently renovated Funkis style apartment for sale in Gothenburg. The mid century tables, string shelving system and black leather sofa are in keeping with the year the apartment block was built in 1947.

What do you love most about this space?

Other beautiful apartments with great mid-century inspiration can be found here, here and here. And of course, in my own sitting room here and here (as you can see I'm a big fan!).

Two of my favourite places to find mid-century furniture are the Malmö based second hand store Nirvana (if you find yourself in Southern Sweden!) and online auction house Lauritz (if you don't find yourself in Southern Sweden!). Do you have any other tips?

Have a lovely Monday!

A pretty Gothenburg apartment with a fab work space

Tuesday, March 11, 2014

Hello Tuesday! It's a beautiful morning here in Southern Sweden. The sun's shining, the sky's blue. Spring's finally arrived and it's time for morning coffees in the garden- yay! This Gothenburg apartment is so Scandinavian fresh with it's white walls, light wood walls, muted tones and natural textures. I'm inspired!

Such a beautiful space don't you think?!

The work space is truly wonderful and not that difficult to achieve. You can get the look using String system shelves, a bright coloured cardboard basket or boxes for stationary, an industrial-style frame fitted with cool Moroccan style tiles (love, love, love these!), a chrome desk lamp and basket for paperwork.

The other thing I like about this apartment is my breakfast's already laid out waiting for me.....boiled egg anyone?!

For other beautiful homes in muted tones it's worth taking a peek at this apartment in Helsinki, this fresh Stockholm space and Tine K's stunning Danish home. *Sigh*.So pretty!

Have a lovely Tuesday!

Monday's home: shades of grey

Monday, February 24, 2014

Hello and happy Monday to you! I'm finally back in Sweden and despite the jet lag (although it's actually quite useful to be up at 4.30am!) it's lovely to be home. It's cold, grey and gloomy compared to Thailand and Singapore but sometimes that can be beautiful too. Take this apartment for example. Decorated in black, white and grey it's the oh so cool apartment of Josefin Hååg of 20 kvadrat photographed recently for Residence Magazine.

I am loving that it has the real Lotta Agaton stamp (check out another styling project by Lotta here and her own home). Lotta is my absolute favourite stylist of the moment, she has such a unique personal style. She is also a firm believer that grey will be the go-to colour for interiors in 2014 like in the home featured here.

What do you love about this home?

Oh and I have some exciting news: the book featuring my house:  Design Bloggers at Home by Ellie Tennant launches in March. I can't wait to see a copy! I only hope there were no socks lurking under the sofa or something...!

And the second exciting thing is I'm holding a fab give-away here tomorrow so be sure to pop back for your chance to win.

Have a lovely Monday!

A very cool Swedish home with a twist.

Thursday, February 20, 2014

There's something up with this space and you'll never guess from the pictures. This is actually a show house for a new residential area outside Stockholm called Fredborgs.  Consisting of 38 modern detached homes, the area is planned to have a village feel surrounded by untouched nature. The low energy villas will be built in natural materials all with a ready made garden looking out over forest land.  The show home has clearly been designed by someone very cool with impeccable, on trend taste!

Apart from the obvious designer items and cool moodboards, I immediately noticed the baby crib in the bedroom as this is the one I also had when my little girls were newborns.

Is there anything that resonates with you in particular about this home? And have you ever seen a showhome like it?! I'd want to move in directly complete with all the furniture, lighting and accessories!

After four fantastic weeks with my family in Thailand we're finally heading home (boo hooo!). Right now we're in Singapore (anyone got any great tips?!) and will fly back to Sweden tomorrow.  The good news is I'll be back to blogging from my usual workspace on Monday. Since we'll be on the move tomorrow I won't have a chance to post, so have a fantastic weekend and see you Monday from sunny Sweden!

PS Other stunning homes shot by Kristofer Johnsson include the artist Therese Sennerholt's black and white home and this beautiful Stockholm apartment with a mid-century touch. Love!

Cool grey and brass in a Gothenburg home

Tuesday, February 18, 2014

I was overwhelmed with the popularity of the swedish apartment with a mid-century touch featured in Monday's post- especially on Facebook! This Gothenburg home channels a different trend: the combination of light grey and brass. It's a completely different style but very cool too. I've been coveting a brass faucet with a light grey marble kitchen surface in my kitchen, what do you think? I absolutely love the rest of the space too.

What do you think? Are you a fan of this look? Anything in particular you love about this home? I love it. I guess my only concern is that it could become outdated quickly.

For more brass-in-the-home inspiration it's definitely work checking out this oh so stunning home and this very cool Norwegian work space.

Have a lovely Wednesday!

Swedish apartment with a mid-century touch

Monday, February 17, 2014

This is a perfect home to brighten up a dreary Monday in February with it's bold colours and patterns and cool prints.  I love the way the home has been designed to maximise the use of space too, for example the hall double's up as a work space and the area between two doors has been used to hang children's coats. It's fun, slightly quirky and very cool, I like it! How about you?

Stadshem
What do like most about this family apartment?

I spy: the Vitra Panton chair (15% discount with code MYSCAN), the Magis Puppy Chair in the children's bedroom, the Rosendahl Arne Jacobsen Bankers Clock is similar to the wall clock. A vintage PH5 pendant lamp (try Lauritz). The Artichoke Suspension light is similar to the one they have over the dining table.

For other apartments with a mid-century touch try this fab house owned by a stylist and fashion photographer, the very cool Row House and this Dalarna home which takes mid-century to a whole new level!

Have a lovely start to the week!
